Kerin Black

As of September 2025, I am Head of Alexander Technique at the Royal Academy of Music, where I have been teaching since 2021. In addition to my role at the RAM, I continue to offer private AT lessons and workshops.

In 2002 I completed my 3-year full-time studies as an Alexander Technique Teacher with Robin Simmons at Hampstead Alexander Centre. Since then I have been teaching around the world, currently primarily in London, previously in Germany, where I lived from 2004 until 2020, and also in South Africa, the USA and Switzerland.

In 2016 I founded and was Director of Training of a formally-recognised school in Stuttgart, the South German Alexander Technique Centre (SATZ), which I continued until my move to the UK in 2020. Prior to that I was the Assistant Director of Training at the Alexander Technique Teacher Training Centre in Zurich (ATLAZ) for five years.

My first experiences with the Alexander Technique (AT) took place at the age of 15 at Interlochen Arts Camp in the USA. During my horn studies at the Royal Academy of Music I was fortunate to be able to continue having lessons throughout my time there. Directly after graduation, I began my Alexander Technique teacher training.

In addition to training Alexander Technique teachers for nearly 10 years at the ATLAZ in Zurich and the SATZ in Stuttgart, I have maintained a thriving private studio throughout. I have also designed and delivered continuing professional development (CPD) workshops for AT teachers at international congresses and meetings, as well as for the teachers of Harrow Music Service.

I have much experience teaching individuals and groups from all walks of life, all of whom have many different reasons for learning: from chronic pain relief to more freedom and comfort on stage, to enhanced performance in various sports, improved posture or general personal development, and many other reasons.
