Yes. Posture isn’t about right positions or alignment. By discovering your muscular habits within movement and dynamic positions, like standing or sitting, you are enabled to get out of your body’s way, allowing it to find a natural, healthy posture or poise with ease.

Yes. Often we are aware of our chronic tension only because of the acute symptoms: headaches or painful backs or joints, for example. The Alexander Technique differs from therapies directly targeting pain relief in that it teaches you an increased awareness of the tension as it begins, as well as giving you the skills to undo that tension before it gets out of hand. Muscle tension is caused by internal factors and can be effectively prevented or released in the same manner.

How long is a piece of string? All joking aside, it’s very much like learning a language or a musical instrument. In one lesson you will have a new experience and take away some new skills which you will have for a lifetime. Each additional lesson builds on that knowledge and skill. The number of lessons required varies depending on what you are hoping to achieve. You only have to commit to one lesson at a time, though I do recommend committing to yourself to try it out for six lessons, if possible, in order to get a thorough introduction to the principles of the Technique and to begin to see where the process could lead. Beyond that, the sky’s the limit!
